TEXTILE INDUSTRY • Felts for compact calenders
Felts for compact calenders have to fulfill special requirements inside the application. The shrinking processes of the textile goods, which are treated, has to be definable and controllable.
The know-how for this kind of felts was developed within many years by itb. An important component at this was and is a close co-operation with the OEM manufacturers.
Special constructions of the felts, use of synthetic and aramid fibers, as well as a special procedure of the thermal fixation and the surface treatment, make the itb products unique.
The shrinking of fabrics in compact calenders is mainly defined by the roller diameter (a) and the felt thickness (b).
The smaller the relationship is the higher is the percentage of shrinkage of the fabrics. As consequence the felt thickness must be as large as possible (up to 21 mm is possible).
Although thereby the felts can achieve a weight up to 8.500 g/m2, the surface has to be extremely smooth. This is important for a high quality standard of the treated fabrics.
